Following the news earlier today that Dwayne Johnson is playing Black Adam in Shazam!, New Line Cinema has revealed that Darren Lemke (Goosebumps) has signed on to write the screenplay.

Here's what New Line Cinema COO Toby Emmerich had to say about Dwayne Johnson's casting.

"We love Dwayne and have had nothing but success with him over the years. When I look at Dwayne both off screen and on screen, he is such a larger than life character and it just made perfect sense to me that we put him in a DC comic movie. You look at these comic book characters and they have this certain swag and charisma that Dwayne carries with him where ever he is so that's why this always made sense."

We reported last month that the actor had trouble deciding if he wanted to play either Shazam! or Black Adam, who, in the most recent issues of the DC Comics, is portrayed as an anti-hero trying to clear his name. The actor had been in talks for the role since 2008.

No production date has been set yet, since Darren Lemke has just came aboard to write the script, but the production is expected to move along swiftly after he delivers the script.

Darren Lemke's recent writing credits include Jack the Giant Slayer, Turbo, this fall's Goosebumps and the upcoming Beasts of Burden.
