Marvel Studios are familiar with CG characters and the work required to bring them to life. Josh Brolin played Thanos in two Avenger films, and Mark Ruffalo has appeared as a full CGI Hulk in numerous movies across the MCU. However, the upcoming Disney+ series, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, will be the first time a lead character in a Marvel project is entirely CG.

Following the first trailer's release, fans worried about the VFX in the series and how the character might look incomplete and noticeably computer-generated. Now, She-Hulk head writer and executive producer Jessica Gao is discussing the difficulty of perfecting Tatiana Maslany's character and the 'trial and error' necessary to perfect their vision. During an interview with IGN at San Diego Comic-Con, Gao said they 'didn't really have a plan' when they began creating the series.

"This was unprecedented because [Marvel has] never made a TV show where the lead character is completely CG when she's the title character. When we first started, we didn't really have a plan or know how we were gonna do it. We just knew we were gonna do it and I just figured, 'Look, it's Marvel. They know what they're doing. They're gonna figure it out. It's been a process of trial and error. There's been a lot of growing pains. I think if we had to do it over again, we would probably think long and hard about how often we want a CG character on screen, but it all worked out.'"

The series stars Tatiana Maslany as the title character, with Mark Ruffalo joining her as Bruce Banner/The Hulk. Tim Roth, Jameela Jamil, Josh Segarra, Griffin Matthews, Benedict Wong, and Charlie Cox will also join the cast. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law premieres on Disney+, on Aug. 17th, with new episodes releasing weekly for nine weeks.

She-Hulk Director Saw the Series as an Opportunity to Experiment

Although pulling off an entirely CG character who holds most of the screen time in the series is a challenge, director Kat Coiro saw it as an opportunity to experiment with new toys. It's no secret that Marvel and Disney make a heap of money with every release, giving them cutting-edge technology that most directors could only dream of. Coiro took full advantage of the benefits and enjoyed every minute of it, according to IGN.

"One of the coolest things about working with Marvel is you get to try every tool that is out there and it's right on the cutting edge, so our methodology was [to use] everything that exists to capture actors' honest performance. It didn't even feel like a challenge at the end of the day. It felt like a part of the process."

She-Hulk: Attorney At Law is now less than a month away, and fans will get the opportunity to see how the VFX turned out in the final cut of the series, releasing Aug. 17th.
