Though there have been talks of a TV series based on 2008's Swedish horror hit Let the Right One In for a while now, the gritty vampire thriller has finally found a home on Showtime.

The first official trailer for the new series introduces us to Eleanor (played by Selena: The Series' Madison Taylor Baez), a young vampire who is forced to stay on the run with her father Mark (Oscar nominee Demián Bichir) in order to hide her secret. The pair, who have been moving constantly in the ten years since Eleanor was bitten, are also hunting down the vampire that turned her in hopes of a cure.

As the lonely Eleanor befriends neighbor Isaiah (Ian Foreman), the boy's homicide detective mother (Anika Noni Rose) begins to grow suspicious of the newcomers and the family begins to realize that they can't hide forever.

The upcoming series is not the first American adaptation of Let the Right One In—which itself is an adaptation of the Swedish novel of the same name by John Ajvide Lindqvist.

The novel, released in 2004, tells the story of the friendship that blossoms between bullied 12-year-old Oskar and centuries-old vampire child Eli in 1980s suburban Stockholm. While the Swedish film adaptation is not as graphic as the novel (which is at times downright uncomfortable to read), it did not shy away from the story's heavier themes—including pedophilia and genital mutilation.

Following Let the Right One In's critical success with international horror audiences, an American remake directed by Matt Reeves titled Let Me In was released in 2010. The film, which starred Chloe Grace Moretz and Kodi Smit-McPhee, toned down the heavier content and ultimately left viewers feeling disappointed.

While it already seems like the Showtime series will deviate in some pretty significant ways from the source material (such as Mark being a seemingly loving father to Eleanor instead of a pedophile preying on her eternal youth), the trailer promises a gory good time from start to finish.

Showtime's Let the Right One In adaptation will also star Grace Gummer (Mr. Robot), Kevin Carroll (Blindspotting), Josh Wingate, and Caroline Neff.

The ten-episode first season of Let the Right One In premieres on Showtime October 7.
