A new high school musical is on the way. According to Variety, Showtime, Lionsgate and Spitfire Pictures will team to make a documentary about real students and faculty competing against each other on stage.

The film, which is being written and directed by Barry Blaustein, will follow three southern Indiana high schools as they attempt to stage a musical in order to get into the International Thespian Festival. The film consists of musical numbers and behind the scenes footage of the students attempting to work together with staff members.

The film will run at a number of different film festivals. Depending on its success, the untitled project will either get a theatrical release, or it will make its debut on Showtime.
