Are we about to get a Silver Sable movie? Sony has been in control of everything related to any and all Spider-Man movies for quite some time, but they recently struck a deal with Marvel Studios to allow Spidey into the MCU. Sony still owns the rights to the character and his rogues gallery, but they seem to be letting Kevin Feige and Co. drive the ship. That said, Sony still never much has hopes of making more movies with other Spider-Man characters. As it turns out, we may already know one of the movies that Sony is planning as a Spider-Man spinoff for what has widley become known as 'The Spider-Verse'.

A new report from ComicBookMovie suggests that Sony is planning a Silver Sable movie, with Abi Morgan, the writer of The Invisible Woman, attached. The rumor comes from former editor of The Wrap Jeff Sneider, who is claiming that Sony wants to move ahead with a Silver Sable movie, assuming it wouldn't make any waves with the folks over at Marvel. Rumors of a movie revolving around the character first surfaced in the Sony email hack, back when the studio was still planning their own Spider-Man cinematic universe.

At this point, there isn't a lot to substantiate the rumors, but Sony does want to make more movies with the characters they control in order to capitalize as much as possible on Spider-Man's good name. A few months ago, news was circulating that Sony was also working on a Venom solo movie as well, which at one time actually had a release date. Recently, producer Tom Rothman opened up in an interview with THR about Sony's plans regarding other Spider-Man movies. He confirmed that the studio would definitely like to do them, but that ultimately, they would want Marvel to sign off and that they are letting Marvel handle things on the creative side.

"It's been fantastic, our relationship with Marvel. Sony has the ultimate authority. But we have deferred the creative lead to Marvel, because they know what they're doing. We start shooting the new Spider-Man in Atlanta [in mid-June]."

Sony decided to cut the deal with Marvel Studios after The Amazing Spider-Man 2 failed to generate the positive buzz and box office it needed for the studio to be able to successfully launch their own cinematic universe, which would have centered on the web slinger. The studio had plans for a ton of spin offs, including a Sinister Six movie, the aforementioned Silver Sable movie, and even, bizarrely enough, an Aunt May solo movie. With Spider-Man: Homecoming currently in production, most of Sony's focus is very likely on that movie, but they probably want to have a plan in place if it goes as well as they hope it is going to go. After Captain America: Civil War, both studios have a lot of reason to be optimistic.

The character of Silver Sable is something of an antihero and a mercenary, who has worked with Spider-Man a lot over the years on the comic book side of things. Similar to Black Widow or The Punisher, she has no actual superpowers, but is still a very capable force to be reckoned with. Silver Sable could easily exist without messing with the MCU continuity, much in the way that Deadpool didn't have a huge effect on the actual continuity of the X-Men movies, even though he is in the same universe. There is no word on when the Silver Sable movie may be happening, but we will be sure to keep you up to date as new information becomes available.
