American Idol producer and on-screen judge Simon Cowell has decided to make a music-themed feature presentation. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will be entitled Star Struck.

The project was inspired by the 1980 film Fame. It will be a behind the scenes look at a musical contestant show, with ten singers striving for the top. It's basically a fictional look at the backstage workings of American Idol.

Cowell stated, "The story is told through the eyes of those 10 contestants. We want it to be the musical version of Rocky-- an underdog story, a feel-good film. Fame was all about young people wanting to be famous, and in order to do that, they enrolled in a drama school. The difference 25 years later is that everyone who wants to be famous today signs up for American Idol."

Cowell hopes that the film will be finished in time for a summer 2008 release date.
