Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was one of the best-received productions of Marvel Studios' phase 4. Unlike other projects that generated mixed opinions, the film starring Simu Liu established the character and gave it enough relevance that everyone awaits the sequel.

Unfortunately, there hasn't been much news regarding the second part. In fact, Shang-Chi does not appear on the MCU release calendar for the next few years, although the dates are permanently changed, and a space for his return could appear soon.

Although there is no date, there is no doubt that the Chinese warrior will return, and perhaps it will be sooner than we imagine. In a chat with Collider, Simu Liu revealed that they are already working on the film:

"Going into a sequel feels exciting. It doesn’t necessarily feel like there’s a pressure to perform or a pressure to exceed. It feels like we’ve established a world and there’s just something really nostalgic and exciting about returning to that world that we’ve spent so much time ideating on and thinking about. And then, we’re getting to revisit some things, but also show the viewer new things. We’ll deliver all of the amazing action that we were celebrated for on the first movie, but then also hopefully explore new sides of Shaun’s character and the characters around him. That is, of course, if we can still afford Michelle Yeoh. She’s on top of the world and just the queen of everything."

The Story of Shang-Chi

Shang-Chi
Marvel Studios

The character was created by writer Steve Englehart and artist Jim Starlin, debuting in Special Marvel Edition #15 in December 1973. Shang-Chi is inspired by 1970s martial arts movies, which were huge box office hits. The superhero is presented as the unknown son of the Chinese villain Fu Manchu and, at the same time, his biggest stone on the path to world domination.

In the film, the protagonist lives in San Francisco, where he works as a parking valet at a hotel. Victim of the theft of a pendant, a gift from his mother, he and his best friend Katy travel to Macau to warn Xiaolin, the hero's sister, about the danger that awaits them.

In this way, he will face the past he thought he had left behind when he is drawn into the network of the mysterious organization of the Ten Rings, led by his father.
