Directors Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez return for this follow-up to 2005's Sin City. Jessica Alba reprises her role as Nancy Callahan, who is still dancing at Kadie's. About the returning actress and her character, Frank Miller had this to say,

"She is eight times the actor [that she was] when I did the first film. She's out for revenge. She is sick of being treated, as she puts it, 'as a piece of ass."

Robert Rodriguez continues,

"You see a little girl in that first film. By the end of this, she's the avenging angel."

Mickey Rourke reprises his role as the murderous Marv, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt appearing in his chapter of the film as hard-luck gambler Johnny. As Robert Rodriguez puts it,

"He beat the wrong guy at poker. [His character] is completely new and fresh. [This movie] lends itself very well to 3D, because the images are so stripped down and abstract."
