We’re counting down the days for our luck to turn. Skydance has released the full trailer for their first feature length film, Luck! The trailer and synopsis can be viewed below.

From Apple Original Films and Skydance Animation comes the story of Sam Greenfield, the unluckiest person in the world, who when she stumbles into the never-before-seen Land of Luck, sets out on a quest to bring some good luck home for her best friend. But with humans not allowed, her only chance is teaming up with the magical creatures who live there to do it.

Luck is the first film in the partnership between Apple TV+ and Skydance Animation. Starting with the 2021 short, Blush, the contract promises several films in the future! Spellbound is set to be the next in line from the studio, though currently there has been no recent news on the status of production.

This trailer reveals a bit more than the teaser the studio released this past Friday the 13th, while the teaser gave a hint at the land of luck, the full trailer introduces us to the life of Sam Greenfield. The Unluckiest Movie

Sadly, the production of the movie has its own share of unfortunate luck. John Lasseter was brought to Skydance to fill in for head of animation. The hiring was done just days after his contract with Disney expired. Previously, Lasseter was chief creative officer of Pixar, but was forced to step away after multiple allegations were raised against him surrounding sexual misconduct. Upon Lasseter’s hiring of Skydance, Emma Thompson, who was voicing one of the characters in Luck, stepped down.

Along with Lasseter’s controversial involvement, there were several other replacements on the project. In 2020, director Allesandro Carloni (Kung Fu Panda 3) was replaced with Peggy Holmes (The Pirate Fairy). Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger (Kung Fu Panda), the original writers on the project, were also replaced by Kiel Murray (Raya and the Last Dragon).

The controversy around Luck is about as polarizing as the fantastical world it is set in, with one side focusing on the good and the other side focusing on the bad. Despite the controversial stuff surrounding the movie, what we get in the trailer is pretty promising. We’ve seen animation explore the concept of personified emotions, an abstract world inhabited by blank souls, a world about where luck comes from both blends in and manages to stand out at the same time. With a world inhabited by lucky rabbits, unicorns, and even a dragon in a business suit, perhaps Luck can mark a promising start for the people behind Skydance.

Luck stars Eva Noblezada (Easter Sunday), Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead), Whoopi Goldberg (The Color Purple), Jane Fonda (Grace and Frankie), Lil Rey Howery (Free Guy), and John Ratzenberger (Toy Story). The film will be coming to AppleTV+ for streaming on August 5th.
