Skydance is edging closer to its feature-length debut. The animation studio has just unveiled its first teaser trailer for Luck on, of all days, this past Friday, the 13th! The trailer can be viewed below.

The teaser starts with an introduction to Bob, the black cat, as he explains how luck is treated in this magical world. The corporate-themed world is run by friendly-looking creatures such as rabbits, pigs, leprechauns, goats, and more. Some employees bring us regular people good luck; some bring us not-so-good-luck. The teaser ends with the introduction of our protagonist and a peek at her unfortunate relationship with luck.

Luck has us following Sam Greenfield, the unluckiest person in the world. One day, Sam finds herself stumbling into the fabled Land of Luck, which is a big no-no for humans. Sam teams up with Bob and several other colorful characters to go on a journey to bring some good luck home for her friend and hopefully turn her own luck around in the process.

Luck will be directed by Emmy Award winner Peggy Holmes (The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning, Secret of the Wings). Kiel Murray (Raya and the Last Dragon, Cars, Cars 3) is credited with writing the screenplay. Producing the film are John Lasseter, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and David Eisemann are producing. The soundtrack will be composed by John Debney (The Passion of the Christ).

Luck will be featuring a colorful cast of characters! Voicing Sam Greenfield will be Eva Noblezada (Hadestown), with Simon Pegg (Ice Age) as Bob. Joining them will be Jane Fonda (Grace and Frankie) as The Dragon, Whoopie Goldberg (The Lion King) as The Captain, Flula Borg (Trolls World Tour) as Jeff the Unicorn, Lil Rel Howery (Free Guy) as Marv, Colin O’Donoghue (Once Upon a Time) as Gerry, John Ratzenberger (Toy Story) as Rootie and Delynn Spoon (Watchmen) as Sam’s friend Hazel.

Luck is slated to be the first feature-length film in the partnership between Apple TV+ and Skydance Animation. Their previous release was the short film Blush, which was directed by Emme Award-winning filmmaker Joe Mateo (Big Hero 6). Their next film for the streaming service will be Spellbound, which will be directed by Vicky Jenson and is scheduled for a release in November. As part of this contract, the studio will also be producing the series The Search for WondLa, based on the 2010 novel of the same name.

Skydance will also be revealing more of the Land of Luck at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival’s World in Progress sessions in June of this year. Hopefully, this means that there will be more to see (maybe a full trailer) before the film’s official debut on Apple TV+ on August 5th of this year! So far, the streaming service has been holding up pretty well with its utilization of the Peanuts characters in new specials and shows. They’ve recently announced a slate of new animated children’s shows for this summer; let’s hope Luck will have what it takes to bring in the big numbers!
