Summit Entertainment has acquired the distribution rights for the upcoming action-thriller Snitch, which stars Dwayne Johnson.

The story centers on Dwayne Johnson's character, a father who is devastated when his son is sentenced to 10 years in prison on a drug charge. He takes the drastic step of going undercover inside a prison to try and bust a drug overlord from the inside, to get his son's sentence reduced.

Ric Roman Waugh will direct from a screenplay by Justin Haythe, which was inspired by a documentary on the PBS program Frontline. Nigel Sinclair, Guy East, Alex Brunner, David Fanning, and Gordon Gray are producing, with Dwayne Johnson executive producing.

We first reported on this project back in March, when Dwayne Johnson signed on to star. That reported indicated Snitch will start shooting in June.
