Open Road Films has released the first trailer for their upcoming thriller Snowden, set to hit theaters on December 25. Written and directed by Academy Award-Winning Director Oliver Stone, Snowden features an all-star cast including Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Shailene Woodley, Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, Tom Wilkinson, Rhys Ifans and Nicolas Cage. You may notice that Oliver Stone uses the same image of an upside-down American flag from Natural Born Killers, with the trailer including the tagline "One nation, under surveillance, for liberty and justice for all."

The script is based on the books The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World's Most Wanted Man by Luke Harding and Time of the Octopus by Anatoly Kucherena. The latter book mainly deals with former information analyst Snowden's time in Russia hoping to get asylum while the United States was demanding his extradition to potentially face jail time for leaking classified information. Edward Snowden's story was previously told in last year's Oscar-winning documentary Citizenfour.

Scott Eastwood and Joely Richardson round out the supporting cast for this highly-anticipated drama, which could be a contender for the Best Picture Oscar race, and possibly for Joseph Gordon-Levitt for his starring role as the title character, with a plum Christmas Day release date already intact. Unfortunately, we don't get any actual footage in this brief teaser, so stay tuned for the full trailer as soon as it becomes available. In the meantime, check out the first teaser for Snowden below.
