Heat Vision is reporting that Sofía Vergara (Modern Family) has been cast in The Smurfs to be directed Raja Gosnell. This is an adaptation of the '80s cartoon series from Columbia Pictures. They are going to release it in summer 2011.

Vergara is going to portray Odile, an executive at a French cosmetics company "who is married to the live-action character played by Neil Patrick Harris."

Jayma Mays and Hank Azaria have also been cast in the movie. It starts shooting in New York next week.

In addition to this, Vergara recently grabbed a voice role in George Miller's Happy Feet 2 in 3D. Warner Bros. wants to release that film in November 2011.
