Many films make minor changes following test screenings, but few have completely redesigned their main character after releasing the first trailer. 2020’s Sonic The Hedgehog found itself in that very exclusive group after fans tore apart the design of the iconic blue speedster when he made his first appearance, with particular note given to the character's strangely human eyes. While costly to completely change the character’s face at a point when much of the movie was already finished, it paid off with the movie being a huge hit. Now the marketing team behind Sonic The Hedgehog 2 has been listening to fans again, leading to changes being made to the latest posters for the film to include a couple of notably absent cast names.

When the latest Sonic 2 poster dropped, it was quickly pointed out that while all four main male stars of the movie, Ben Schwartz, James Marsden, Jim Carrey and Idris Elba, were all listed, the names of Tika Sumpter, who returns as Maddie Wachowski, and Colleen O’Shaughnessey, providing the voice for Miles “Tails” Prower, were nowhere to be seen. However, following the many comments on social media, a new version of the poster has been released, with the two actresses’ names now sitting alongside the other main cast members.

Sonic The Hedgehog was a pleasant surprise when it arrived in cinemas just before the start of the Covid pandemic, and with the film gaining a lot more praise than many anticipated, it was always likely that a sequel would be soon following. It was soon announced that Sonic 2 was heading into production, and as well as the return of the main cast from the first movie, the sequel saw the addition of O’Shaughnessey as Tails and Idris Elba as Knuckles.

The first movie gave fans of the game plenty of Easter Eggs, from rings to the setting of Green Hills, and there is no doubt that the sequel is setting itself up to bring a lot more of this on April 1st internationally and April 8th in the U.S., with the focus of the story shifting to Chaos Emeralds, and the giant Eggman Robot of Dr. Robotnik, both of which are pulled directly from the video games. Even Robotnik’s former assistant is now working at the Mean Bean coffee shop, proving there are going to be many fun little things for fans to look out for in the sequel.

Even before Sonic 2 hits cinemas, Paramount has already committed to a third movie in the franchise as well as a brand-new spin-off series focusing on Idris Elba’s Knuckles, which will release sometime next year on Paramount+. While there are not many details on either of these future projects currently available, it is apparent that Paramount is planning on making the Sonic franchise a big part of their future, and it looks as though there are plenty of fans eagerly awaiting more.
