At this point, it is hardly clear whether or not Ghostbusters 3 will ever see the light of day, after countless delays. This morning, a new report surfaced that indicated Sony wants to move forward with an animated version of Ghostbusters 3. Here's an excerpt from that article.

"Thanks to the team's failed attempts [and] dedication to bring Bill Murray back into the fold as Dr. Peter Venkman, the project has been in development hell for the better part of a decade. What's interesting is the roundabout news that, once again, Sony is looking to do Ghostbusters 3 as an animated film, a source exclusively reveals to Bloody Disgusting. This was the original plan back in 2007, which eventually resulted in the incredible 2009 video game."

However, that news has already been debunked by a Sony executive, who insists that they are continuing to develop Ghostbusters 3 as a live-action project, with Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson attached to star.

Back in October, we reported that Sony won't make a final decision about whether or not they will make Ghostbusters 3 until sometime this spring. With that spring "deadline" approaching, hopefully we find out, once and for all, if this sequel will ever be made, one way (live-action) or another (animation).
