It seems that Sony's expectations for its PlayStation 3 gaming console will fall short.

Sony Corp. announced on Thursday that it will not reach its goal of 11 million units sold by April, and has scaled back its target to 9.5 million. Recently, both Microsoft and Nintendo have said that their XBox 360 and Wii consoles were ahead of sales forecasts.

The good news for Sony was that its gaming division has made a profit for the first time since 2005. Its net profit gained 25% in the third fiscal quarter.
