Sony Pictures has acquired a pitch from screenwriter Jason Keller (Machine Gun Preacher, Mirror Mirror), which will delve into the origins of Dracula.

Little is known about the untitled project, except that Sony plans to make this a period piece. Joe Roth and Palak Patel will produce, although no director is attached at this time. Ironically, the project brings together the writer and producers of both Snow White movies hitting theaters this year. Jason Keller wrote Mirror Mirror, due in theaters March 30, while Joe Roth and Palak Patel produced Snow White and the Huntsman, which debuts June 1.

This new Dracula project is just the latest in a string of movies in development that center on the famed vampire created by Bram Stoker. We reported earlier this month that Universal Pictures is reviving Dracula Year Zero, and Warner Bros. has Harker, which stars Russell Crowe as a Scotland Yard detective obsessed with finding Dracula.

No production schedule was given for this new Dracula project.
