The longtime producers of the James Bond franchise are teaming up with Sony for a rare non-Bond film. According to Variety, Sony has acquired the rights to the novel Remote Control for James Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli's Eon Productions.

The book, written by Mark Burnell, revolves around a former war correspondant-turned-financial analyst who gets embroiled in a conspiracy that involves Western corporations trying to manipulate the Chinese economy. Burnell will adapt his own novel for the silver screen.

"Our collaboration with Michael and Barbara on Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace was extraordinary and special and we all wanted to find another way to work together," said Columbia Pictures co-president Doug Belgrad. "Mark Burnell's new novel is an exciting thriller and it's precisely the kind of material that Michael and Barbara will be able to adapt so well."
