Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU) officially launched in 2018 with the release of Venom. Similarly to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC Extended Universe, Sony's shared universe focuses on villains and superheroes that somehow relate to Spider-Man, whether as allies or antagonists. According to Forbes, Sony's multi-franchise project was initially said to launch a lot earlier, indeed, following the release of Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but after the financial failure of the movie, the plans got abandoned.

Venom's inclusion in Spider-Man: No Way Home’s post-credit scene made it very clear that there are many crossovers planned for the future. The most recent addition to the SSU is Jared Leto's Morbius, which topped the box office during its opening weekend. In MCU post-credits scene fashion, Morbius effectively set up other SSU projects. We can’t wait for what they have in store for us, but in the meantime, here's a look at all the released / currently-in-development movies and TV series in Sony's Spider-Man Universe (so far).

Peter Parker wasn't the only one to get bitten by a radioactive spider: a Korean-American girl named Cindy Moon — who has briefly appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming as Peter's classmate — suffered the same fate. The character was first introduced in the 2014 story called Spider-Verse, which later inspired the Oscar-winning animated movie Spider-Man: Into The Spider-verse. Unlike Peter, Cindy didn't have a lot of time to become acquainted with her powers before she was approached by billionaire Ezekiel Sims, who first trained her and then locked her up. It took Spider-Man ten years, in fact, to learn about her existence and break her free (after which she devoted herself to fighting crime as Silk). In 2018, it was reported that Sony and Amy Pascal were developing a Marvel comic movie about this superhero. Two years later, according to Variety, Sony Pictures Television changed direction of the project, planning a live-action TV series instead. The Silk series was announced to start filming in late August 2021, after Amazon won the rights for distribution, but because of Covid-19, there is still no set date for filming or production.

Kraven The Hunter

Kraven The Hunter is set to be the fourth movie released in the Sony Spider-Man Universe in 2023. This time, we're turning our focus on yet another villain that was hired to hunt down Spider-Man and ended up working with other villains such as Doctor Octopus, Vulture, and Mysterio to take the superhero down. Kraven was born into the Russian Revolution and became one of the greatest hunters in history. After taking a herbal potion, he enhanced his strength and powers. Aaron Taylor-Johnson will play the main lead in the Spider-Man spinoff. Other actors such as Russel Crowe, Fred Hechinger, Ariana DeBose, Alessandro Nivola, and Christopher Abbott have also been recruited to star in the upcoming movie.

Morbius released in the United States on April 1st, 2022 after being delayed numerous times due to the ongoing pandemic. The movie is based on the Marvel Comic about Michael Morbius, who becomes a living vampire after curing himself of a rare disease. Despite high expectations, the movie didn't do well with critics, who called it messy and confusing. Morbius, in fact, became the worst-rated Spider-Man movie on Rotten Tomatoes. Even though the Sony movie cut almost all the Easter eggs and cameos, director Daniel Espinoza confirmed that there is definitely a Spider-Man in the Sony's Marvel Universe. We'll see what the future holds for the countless possibilities of crossovers and Morbius' place in the spectacular universe.

Venom was the first movie released as part of Sony's Spider-Man Universe. It became the seventh-highest-grossing-film of 2018 with over $856 million grossed worldwide, even though it received negative reviews from critics for its inconsistency and lack of connection to Spider-Man in its storytelling. The plot follows a struggling journalist named Eddie Brock, who accidentally becomes the host of an alien symbiote, whose species plan to invade the Earth. Many currently wonder which version of Spider-Man will eventually get directly involved with Venom. Andrew Garfield expressed his interest in meeting Tom Hardy's Venom face-to-face at some point, while Across The Spider-Verse writers teased an MCU and Venom-Verse crossover.
