Indie filmmakers Jen Soska and Sylvia Soska, who earned rave reviews last year for American Mary, have signed on to direct an adaptation of the Painkiller Jane comic book.

The Painkiller Jane comic, created by Jimmy Palmiotti and Joe Quesada, follows an undercover cop who is tortured after her identity is exposed, which ignites her supernatural regenerative abilities along with an incredibly high pain tolerance.

The comic was first adapted as a 2005 TV movie starring Emmanuelle Vaugier, which lead to the 2007 Painkiller Jane TV series, where Kristanna Loken played the title character.

Jimmy Palmiotti is producing through his Paperfilms company, alongside Stephen L'Heureux (Sin City: A Dame to Kill For) and his Solipsist Films banner. The producers are plotting an indie action thriller, but it is not set up at a studio yet.

Jen Soska and Sylvia Soska made their directorial debut with Dead Hooker in a Trunk, which they followed up with American Mary. They are also directing See No Evil 2 for WWE Studios and Lionsgate, along with a segment in the anthology sequel ABCs of Death 2.
