Director Antoine Fuqua is trading one hip-hop artist for another. The filmmaker has dropped out of the Tupac biopic to direct Southpaw, which has Eminem attached to star.

We first reported on the Tupac project back in February, when Antoine Fuqua signed on to direct. The producers were planning on a summer shoot, although those plans will likely have to be scrapped now.

Southpaw was written by Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter. The story centers around a boxer who somehow manages to fight his way to a title shot, despite his personal life crumbling around him. We first reported on Southpaw in December, when DreamWorks bought Kurt Sutter's pitch.

It is said that Antoine Fuqua does not have a deal locked in for Southpaw yet. DreamWorks hopes to get the project shooting later this year.
