Netflix has released a new trailer for Space Force. This is arguably one of the biggest bits of original programming that the streaming service has coming down the pipeline this year, as it reunites Steve Carell and Greg Daniels, who previously collaborated on The Office together. But with the hit sitcom leaving Netflix for NBC's Peacock, this is set to serve as a replacement of sorts. Based on what we're seeing in the trailer, they spared no expense.

The trailer sees Steve Carell as a decorated member of the U.S. Armed Forces who has just been given a major promotion, albeit one he doesn't necessarily want. He has been named the head of the newly-formed Space Force, a branch of the military tasked with ensuring the safety of, well, space. As we can see, this results in a messy situation that brings with it a ripe opportunity. And an unexpected Beach Boys needled drop in the form of Kokomo. Overall, it looks like what we've come to expect from these creators, but on a much larger scale. Instead of a lowkey, hidden camera workplace comedy, this is a big, expensive, grandiose comedy taking on current events.

Several photos had previously been revealed, as well as a teaser when the show was first announced, but this is the first actual footage that has made its way online. Greg Daniels serves as showrunner, in addition to his duties as co-creator and producer. Howard Klein, also of The Office fame, is on board as an executive producer. Aside from Steve Carell, the A-list cast includes John Malkovich, Diana Silvers, Tawny Newsome, Ben Schwartz, Lisa Kudrow, Jimmy O. Yang, Noah Emmerich, Alex Sparrow and Don Lake.

Space Force centers on Mark R. Naird (Steve Carell), a decorated general and pilot who dreams of running the Air Force. Naird is thrown for a loop when he himself tapped to head up the brand new sixth branch of the military, Space Force. Even though he is skeptical, Mark dedicates himself and moves his family to a remote base in Colorado where he and a group of scientists and "Spacemen" are tasked by the White House with getting American boots on the moon. And in a hurry, with the goal of achieving total space dominance.

It is said that this show is going to cost Netflix big, as Steve Carell alone is earning around $1 million per episode. But with shows like Friends, The Office and more content leaving for rival streaming services, premium original content like this is more necessary than ever. And it doesn't come cheap. The question is, can this become the hit they are hoping it will be? The kind of hit that can help replace a beloved classic? Time will tell. Space Force season 1 is set to debut on May 29 via the Netflix streaming service. Be sure to check out the new trailer for yourself.
