Space Oddity is set to be released on Mar. 31, and prior to the film's release, the official trailer was released through Samuel Goldwyn Films' official YouTube account. The film was first seen last year at the Tribeca Film Festival. Space Oddity will serve as director Kyra Sedgwick's directorial debut on the big screen.

Emmy and Golden Globe winner Kyra Sedgwick is widely known for directing episodes for TV shows such as Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Grace & Frankie, Ray Donovan, City on a Hill, and more. Space Oddity will mark the director's first project on the big screen. The film stars Sedgwick's husband, Kevin Bacon, along with Kyle Allen, Simon Helberg, Madeline Brewer, Alexandra Shipp, Carrie Preston, Christopher Jackson, Andrew Polk, and Arden Myrin.

Sedgwick details the film's theme, which centers primarily on human connection. She told People, "When I think about what matters to me, it's human connection. Life's tough and we can all be so checked out. And the ultimate check out? Leaving the planet and going to Mars... Space Oddity is a story about finding your way home — literally and figuratively — with heart, hope and humanity as the guiding light,"

The screenplay for the film is written by Rebecca Banner. Sedgwick produced the film in partnership with Richard Arlook, Jack Greenbaum, Mark Maxey, Mickey Schiff, Matt Smith, Meredith Bagby, and Valerie Stadler.

An Indie Film That Centers on Human Connection

The newly released trailer shows Kyle Allen as Alex, who decided to give up on everything as he's about to embark on the journey of a lifetime. He got a one-way ticket to Mars through a privately-funded Mars colonization program, and while waiting for his flight, he persistently trained to be fit for the mission.

His family will soon start to worry as he's planned to stay on Mars indefinitely with no return ticket home. While Alex was running errands for a smooth trip, he unexpectedly met Alexandra Shipp's character, Daisy Taylor. The story will soon unfold his persistence on his mission to Mars while tacking conflict with his family, friends, and Daisy.

The official synopsis reads:

When Alex (Allen, 28) gives up on Earth and decides to leave it all behind for a one-way mission to Mars, an unexpected romance forces him to choose between an uncertain journey to the stars or an even more uncertain journey of the heart.
