Starz announced today that they will move forward with Spartacus: Blood and Sand, producing a second season despite having lost their leading man Andy Whitfield. Whitfield dropped out of the popular action series last year after being diagnosed with cancer so that he could undergo prolonged treatment for the illness.
Starz is looking to shoot Season 2 of Spartacus: Blood and Sand this spring, with an eye to launch it sometime in 2012. While they are quickly moving forward with resuming the production, they do not yet have a replacement for Whitfield. They do, however, have a list of actors that they are currently narrowing down. And an official announcement is expected soon.
For those eager to return to the world of Spartacus: Blood and Sand, Starz will be debuting the series' prequel Spartacus: Gods of the Arena on Friday, January 21st.
