Animated sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse continues to round out its ensemble cast, adding Deadpool and Miracle Workers star Karan Soni as Pavitr Prabhakar aka Spider-Man India. Coming courtesy of One Take News, Soni joins a cast that includes Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, and Oscar Isaac, with the comedian providing the voice for just one of the many Spider-Variants who will be introduced in the follow-up.

Introduced back in 2004, and created by Jeevan Kang, Suresh Seetharaman, and Sharad Devarajan, Pavitr Prabhakar aka Spider-Man is a resident of Earth-50101. Starting life as a poor boy living in Mumbai with his aunt Maya and uncle Bhim, Pavitr gains the powers of a spider after encountering an ancient yogi while being chased by bullies. Vowing to fight the evil that threatens the world, Pavitr’s story mirrors that of Peter Parker, with the character expected to play a significant role in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Karan Soni meanwhile is best known for roles in the likes of Safety Not Guaranteed, Goosebumps, Ghostbusters, Pokémon Detective Pikachu, and Strange World, as well as The Goldbergs, Silicon Valley, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Miracle Workers, and more on the small screen. He is best recognized though for a role in another comic book outing, Deadpool, with Soni playing the cab driver and confidant of the Merc with a Mouth, Dopinder, in both the first movie and the sequel, Deadpool 2.

Miles Morales
Sony Pictures

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is due to introduce all manner of Spider-People, as Miles Morales reunites with Gwen Stacy. Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is soon catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero, so he can save the people he loves most.

Not only will Miles have to face-off with alternate versions of himself, he will also tackle B-list supervillain The Spot (Jason Schwartzman), a bad guy whose body is covered by interdimensional portals that allow him to travel through different universes. A skill that should come in handy when embarking across the spider-verse.

Directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson from a screenplay by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and David Callaham, and starring Shameik Moore as Miles Morales aka Spider-Man, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy aka Spider-Woman, Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker aka Spider-Man, Oscar Isaac as Miguel O'Hara aka Spider-Man 2099, Issa Rae as Jessica Drew aka Spider-Woman, Daniel Kaluuya as Hobart "Hobie" Brown aka Spider-Punk, and now Karan Soni as Pavitr Prabhakar aka Spider-Man India, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is scheduled to be released on June 2, 2023.
