Sony Pictures Animation's upcoming release, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, has garnered significant attention due to its lengthy runtime. The film, which is a sequel to the award-winning animated superhero film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, has been confirmed to have an official DCP runtime of 140 minutes or 2 hours and 20 minutes. This news was reported by Twitter user Cryptic HD QUALITY and confirmed by movie theater chain AMC Theatres. With this runtime, the film is set to become one of the longest Western animated films of all time, surpassing the runtime of several notable films but falling short of The Tragedy of Man, which has a runtime of 160 minutes.

The plot of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse follows Miles Morales as he reunites with Spider-Woman, also known as Gwen Stacy. The two find themselves traveling across the Multiverse and encountering a team of other Spider-People. This team is charged with protecting the very existence of the Multiverse, but when they clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles is forced to confront his own understanding of what it means to be a hero. He must work to save the people he loves most and redefine his role in the Spider-Verse.

Andy Samberg, best known for his role on the TV show Brooklyn Nine-Nine and as a member of The Lonely Island, is set to join the voice cast of the highly anticipated Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. While it remains a mystery which character Samberg will voice in the upcoming sequel, many fans have speculated that it could be the superhero Ben Reilly, also known as the Scarlet Spider. This announcement comes after co-director Joaquim Dos Santos teased the identity of the actor voicing the Scarlet Spider, saying that even the actors themselves don't know who else is in the movie, and they record their lines alone.

"I can't wait for people to hear who voices him. [The actor's identity] still hasn't been released, but I love our Scarlet Spider actor,” he said. “Not even the actors know! Everyone is sworn to secrecy, and they record alone, so most of them are discovering with the public who is in the film they've been making. Their reactions have been pretty hilarious."

Samberg will be joining a star-studded cast for the movie, which includes Shameik Moore returning as the voice of Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy, and Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker. Other members of the voice cast include Oscar Isaac as Miguel O'Hara, aka Spider-Man 2099, Issa Rae as Jessica Drew, aka Spider-Woman, who will be pregnant, Karan Soni as Pavitr Prabhakar, aka Spider-Man India, from a universe known as Mumbattan, and Daniel Kaluuya as Hobart "Hobie" Brown, aka Spider-Punk. The movie is directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson, with a screenplay by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and David Callaham.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is set to hit theaters on June 2, 2023. The movie will be followed by another sequel titled Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which is scheduled to be released on March 29, 2024.
