Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is expected to surpass its predecessor in terms of opening weekend earnings. Box Office Pro has projected the movie to earn at least $85 million domestically within the first three days of release. This figure would more than double the opening weekend earnings of its predecessor, Into the Spider-Verse, which earned $35.4 million during its premiere. High-end projections are even more optimistic, suggesting that Across the Spider-Verse could potentially earn up to $105 million domestically during its opening weekend, almost tripling the earnings of its predecessor. The movie's high projections are partially due to the success of Into the Spider-Verse, which was well-received by both critics and audiences.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse follows the story of Miles Morales and his reunion with Gwen Stacy. The plot revolves around the two characters as they travel across the Multiverse, encountering a team of other Spider-People along the way. This team is responsible for protecting the very existence of the Multiverse, but they find themselves at odds when faced with a new threat. This conflict forces Miles to confront his own beliefs about what it means to be a hero. The film will be directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson, with a screenplay written by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and David Callaham.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has generated significant interest due to its extensive runtime. The movie has been confirmed to have a runtime of 140 minutes, making it one of the longest Western animated movies of all time. Producer Amy Pascal stressed the importance of caring about the characters in a sequel, rather than going bigger just for the sake of being bigger. She believes that the bells and whistles are no good unless you care. Pascal also confirmed that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is, in fact, a love story between Miles and Gwen. The movie's storyline will focus on their relationship, which will add an emotional depth to the movie. It is said to be a continuation of the first movie, but with a more personal touch.

"The danger with a sequel is to go bigger just for bigger's sake. But all the bells and whistles are no good unless you care...This movie is a love story between Miles and Gwen."
