Ever since production wrapped on Marvel and Sony's Spider-Man: Homecoming last month, fans have been wondering when the first footage will debut. Today we have a new, unconfirmed report that claims Marvel will be using the highly-anticipated release of Disney and LucasFilm's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story to launch the first trailer, when it hits theaters on December 16. Disney would not confirm this report or respond to a request for comment.

ComicBook.com's sources close to the production claim that while the footage will be attached to Rogue One, it's also likely that the first footage will debut online before the release date. A specific online premiere date for the trailer has not been revealed. There have also been recent reports that Sony is planning on expanding the Spider-Man universe with new spin-offs that will be announced in the very near future.

Earlier this year, reports surfaced that Sony had brought on writer Dante Harper to write the script for a Venom movie, which would not be connected to this new Spider-Man franchise, starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker. No updates have surfaced from that project since then, but Sony's Tom Rothman teased there will be "real news" about these Spider-Man spin-offs very soon. Before Sony rebooted Spider-Man once again, they were developing Venom and Sinister Six spin-offs that would have connected to Andrew Garfield's Amazing Spider-Man movies.

Last week, Tom Holland confirmed that he has signed on for six movies as Spider-Man, a trilogy that will kick off with Spider-Man: Homecoming and three more movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He wouldn't say what other projects Spidey is set to appear in, but the young actor did hint in a recent interview that he may return for Avengers: Infinity War, but nothing is finalized yet. Production is scheduled to begin in January on Avengers: Infinity War and its currently-untitled Avengers Sequel.

Spider-Man: Homecoming also stars Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, Zendaya as Michelle, Laura Harrier as Liz Allan, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, Tony Revolori as Flash Thompson and Michael Keaton as the villainous Vulture. Jon Watts (Cop Car) directs Spider-Man: Homecoming from a script by John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein (Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs). Hopefully Marvel and Sony confirm when the first Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer will drop soon.
