Last week we passed along some fun news that Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far from Home star Tom Holland would love to see a team-up movie with Sam Raimi's Spider-Man Tobey Maguire and Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man Andrew Garfield. And wouldn't you just know it, the good old internet has now provided us with a fan-cut trailer which brings all three classic live-action web slingers together in one movie, dubbed Spider-Man: Into the Multiverse.
And just to put it back out there, Tom Holland recently said this about his enthusiasm for a Spider-Man: Into the Multiverse movie featuring himself, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield.
"It would be amazing. It would be really, really cool, and it's something that the fans really want. So, whether Marvel and Sony decided to do that, it's up to them. It's not up to me. I can't walk in like, 'Kevin [Feige], this is what we're doing on the next one!' But it would be really awesome."
I know I'm nowhere near alone in thinking that this has got to be the absolute best idea for a third Spider-Man movie I have ever heard. And I can't imagine the powers that be behind the scenes over at Sony wouldn't jump at the opportunity for this hybrid film. After all, in theory, if the team-up movie did well (which it would) then they would have free rein to do further Spider-Man movies within the different universes. I mean how excited would you be for Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 3?! Okay, maybe not so much that one. But how about Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4? There we go!
While it's not clear if we will ever get to see Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man back on the big screen, we can all take comfort in the fact that next week we will see Tom Holland's Spider-Man return to a theater near you in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Cop Car and Spider-Man: Homecoming director Jon Watts returns to the director's chair for this new entry from a screenplay written by The Lego Batman Movie and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle screenwriters Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers based on the classic Marvel character created by the one and only Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.
Tom Holland's co-stars this time around the web include Jon Favreau as Harold "Happy" Hogan, J. B. Smoove as Mr. Dell, Jacob Batalon as Ned, Marisa Tomei as May Parker, and Jake Gyllenhaal as Quentin Beck / Mysterio. Spider-Man: Homecoming actors rejoining the party this time around include Tony Revolori as Eugene "Flash" Thompson, Angourie Rice as Betty Brant, and Zendaya as Michelle "MJ" Jones. On top of that, Spider-Man: Far From Home will see the return of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill. Sony Pictures Releasing will unleash Spider-Man: Far From Home into a theater near you on July 2, 2019. This video comes to us from Nerdist over on YouTube.
