The money continues to roll in for the hit film Spider-Man: No Way Home, with its weekend ticket sales pushing it past $800 million in ticket sales at the domestic box office, per The Numbers. This means that the ultimate Spidey crossover film has become the third movie in cinema history to reach this milestone. Previously, Star Wars: The Force Awakens had ultimately climbed up to $936 million, while Avengers: Endgame pulled in $858 million domestically.

This is a staggering amount of money, but of course, this only factors in the U.S. and Canada ticket sales. Internationally, Spider-Man: No Way Home has pulled in nearly $1.9 billion, smashing many other film records in the process. It's slowly drawing less and less total numbers with each weekend in theaters, but with continued showings each month since its premiere in January, the film remains one of the top draws at the box office.

Spider-Man: No Way Home was directed by Jon Watts and starred Tom Holland, Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Alfred Molina, Jamie Foxx, and Willem Dafoe. While this was not officially confirmed until the movie premiered in December, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire also return in the movie to reprise their roles as Spidey from previous movie franchises. The movie set the stage for what is possible with the multiverse in the MCU, and all eyes are on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness to match it this May.

Tobey Maguire made his debut as Peter Parker in Sam Raimi's first Spider-Man film, released back in 2002. After appearing in two sequels, Maguire's planned Spider-Man 4 was axed when Raimi and Sony just could not get on the same page. With the decision made to reboot the franchise at that point, Maguire's run in the role was over, and it seemed like fans would never see him in the red-and-blue tights again.

Andrew Garfield stepped in to play Peter in The Amazing Spider-Man, and he was given a sequel as well. At that time, the rise in popularity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe had convinced the powers that be that a new Spidey needed to be introduced for the MCU. That meant rebooting Spider-Man once again, resulting in Tom Holland's introduction into the role, followed by his own trilogy of movies.

So, what comes next for our friendly neighborhood web-slinger? Given the success of No Way Home, Marvel and Sony are eager to get to work on another trilogy of Spidey films, hopefully with Holland back in the role. The actor is not quite so sure he wants to return just yet as Spidey, though it does seem more likely than not he isn't finished with the MCU.

"We've had conversations about the potential future of Spider-Man, but at the moment they are conversations, we don't know what the future looks like," Holland previously explained.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is still playing in movie theaters. The film is also available digitally with its 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray release set for April 12, 2022.
