In celebration of the massive success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Sony has released a new, beautifully dramatic poster depicting a battered and beaten Peter Parker (Tom Holland) looking broodily out over Times Square. Since hitting theaters last month, Spider-Man: No Way Home has grossed over $1.6 billion worldwide, and continues to climb the “Highest Grossing Movie of All Time” rankings. Sadly, Peter Parker seems completely unaware of this, as the poster sees him looking rather miserable.
SPOILER warning for those who have yet to see Spider-Man: No Way Home (is there anyone left now?), as the newly released poster seemingly depicts the web-slinger during around the halfway mark of the Marvel movie. Following a vicious battle with Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin which results in the death of Marisa Tomei’s Aunt May, Spider-Man is looking bloody and bruised as he looks over Times Square and considers what he should do next. With revenge in mind, the MCU’s Peter Parker is soon visited by some crowd-pleasing familiar faces, who try to bring our hero back onto a more heroic path.
The image depicted in the poster is reminiscent of another promo released earlier in the movie’s marketing, with the pair of posters sure to make wonderful companion pieces as they adorn the walls of Marvel fans everywhere.
Spider-Man: No Way Home Wraps Up This Stage of Tom Holland’s Tenure
Directed by Jon Watts and starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jacob Batalon, Jon Favreau, Jamie Foxx, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, Benedict Wong, Tony Revolori, Marisa Tomei, and more, Spider-Man: No Way Home finds Peter Parker turning to his superhero colleague Dr. Stephen Strange, and asks him to use magic to make his Spider-Man identity a secret again following its public revelation at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home. When the spell goes awry, the multiverse is broken open and unleashed, allowing visitors from alternate realities to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Following Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home, Tom Holland’s Peter Parker has at last learned that "with great power, there must also come great responsibility," with writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers revealing that Spider-Man: No Way Home brings this iteration of Peter Parker’s origin to an end.
"If it ends here, great,” McKenna said. “If this is the end of this, if this is all about, 'Oh, this was all ...' If you look backward and go, 'This was an origin story that took place over three stories to get this Peter Parker to this place where he's stripped-down, anonymous, has no billionaire benefactor, has been through the sacrifice of what it really means to have this power and what that responsibility that goes along with that is, and is now having to look for how to pay rent.' I think that would be really satisfying, I think that'd be really cool."
Spider-Man: No Way Home was released on December 17, as part of Phase Four of the MCU and has been met with praise from both critics and audiences alike.
