Spider-Man: No Way Home has surpassed the domestic box office gross of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight. With this feat, Spider-Man: No Way Home has now become the twelfth-highest grossing film of all time in the United States. Nolan’s sequel to Batman Begins earlier grabbed $534,858,444 throughout the country from its theatrical run, while No Way Home has managed to web up $536 million.

Spider-Man: No Way Home has been filling up theaters, making itself a landmark film in the pandemic era, making it the only film to gross a billion dollars during worldwide pandemic-associated shutdowns, while also becoming the highest-grossing film of 2021. Just as Spider-Man: No Way Home has been doing wonders, The Dark Knight also became one of the greatest and most influential films in the superhero genre at the time of the release. In fact, Nolan’s then masterpiece also became the highest-grossing superhero film of all time during its theatrical run, surpassing a billion dollars in worldwide gross.

This is another of the many records and feats Spider-Man: No Way Home has broken and achieved respectively in terms of commercial success and profits. First, it broke all records in ticket pre-sales. Then it grossed a billion dollars in just twelve days, eventually surpassing Far From Home to become the highest-grossing Spider-Man film and the most profitable film for Sony Pictures Releasing. The immense success of the film has not only brought back the people to theatrical screenings but has also helped producer Kevin Feige to prove how superhero films aren’t just a formulaic success, but they must connect the audience to the story through accurate fan service. Actor Tom Holland himself has advocated his support to the superhero films, to which he owes his career and international recognition.

No Way Home is still going big on both domestic and global box-office, and positive reviews and audience reception are constantly roping in, amplifying the credibility of the film, which Marvel and Sony are trying to push for this year’s Oscars, including that of Best Picture. Holland has expressed his interest in hosting the ceremony for the 2022 Academy Awards. Earlier, Marvel Studios have always managed to gain nominations for Best Visual Effects almost for every film in the franchise but broke records with Black Panther in 2019. The film not only got Feige a Best Picture nomination, but won three trophies in Costume Design, Production Design, and Original Score. With No Way Home, Marvel would probably push for multiple categories, and the film does stand a chance to make it big at these ceremonies.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is playing in theaters and is getting all praise for its spectacular fan service through its story and the legacy it establishes for the character’s arc in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
