We reported in December that Indian actor Irrfan Khan has signed onto play Nels Van Atter in the Untitled Spider-Man Reboot, which is currently filming in Los Angeles. In the comic books, the character transforms into the Proto-Goblin, so it was assumed that the Proto-Goblin would be one of the villains in the Untitled Spider-Man Reboot. That doesn't seem to be the case now that Irrfan Khan has revealed that he won't be wearing a mask or turning into a monster.

Here's an excerpt from the recent interview below.

"While he is looking forward to Spider-Man, the 48-year-old confesses, that initially he wasn't keen on the project. "I didn't want to be part of this violent American fantasy. But both my sons were excited and kept insisting that I take it up." But the intricacy and freshness of the script finally won. Even then, Irrfan Khan placed one condition before (Marc) Webb - he didn't want to be a masked villain or become another creature."

This wouldn't be the first time that a character from the Spider-Man comic books doesn't turn into a villain creature in the movies. Dylan Baker starred as Dr. Curt Connors in Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3. In the comic books, that character turns into The Lizard, although we never got to see that transformation on the silver screen.
