Spike TV is about to raise the blag sail on a new series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network has ordered a brand reality series entitled Pirate Hunters: USN, which will follow the United States Navy as it searches out pirates off the African coast.
The Navy has allowed the production by 44 Blue to take place on two of its warships, the USS San Antonio and the USS Boxer as they search the Gulf of Aden for pirates who hijack commercial ships.
"Piracy off the coast of Africa is a real and deadly threat," said Rasha Drachkovitch, president and founder of 44 Blue. "With Pirate Hunters: USN, our goal is to capture that drama for the TV audience in order to highlight the heroic work undertaken by the US Navy every day in this fight against terrorism."
The announcement comes on the heels of the rescue of an American ship captain by the Navy after a five-day stand-off with Somalian pirates.
