It's common for directors to have favorite actors. Sofia Coppola regularly collaborates with Kirsten Dunst, working with her on The Virgin Suicides, based on the Jeffrey Eugenides novel, Marie Antoinette, and The Bling Ring. There's also Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio and Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan (the actor's breakout role was in Coogler's debut film Fruitvale Station).

Like many of his peers, Sam Raimi regularly collaborates with the same cast and crew on many of his different film projects, and one of Raimi's high school friends and regular collaborators is Evil Dead star, Bruce Campbell. The actor has long been teasing his cameo appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, a role that turned out to be Campbell as an alternate universe pizza vendor, Pizza Poppa. And, Campbell wasn't the only Evil Dead star to cameo in the film, "The Classic," aka the yellow Oldsmobile, also made its customary appearance in a Raimi-directed film.

Campbell appears in Doctor Strange 2 after the Scarlet Witch's (Elizabeth Olsen) attack on Kamar-Taj. The Scarlet Witch's attack triggers America Chavez's (Xochitl Gomez) ability to open her star portals to travel the multiverse and transports her and Doctor Strange to Earth-838, a newly introduced alternate universe with the MCU's Illuminati. But when the duo first arrives (i.e., before the Illuminati finds them), they meet Pizza Poppa, an alternate universe vendor selling bell-shaped pizza. When America takes a pizza, mistakenly assuming it's free (because in most universes' food is free), she is confronted by Pizza Poppa for stealing the food. But since they don't have the universe's money, Strange bewitches Campbell's character to beat himself up (the kind of physical comedy the actor is known for).

Bruce Campbell Appears in Post-Credit Scene

Bruce Campbell Wants a Younger Ash Actor for the Next Evil Dead

Bruce Campbell then reappears in the post-credit scene of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as well. The post-credit scene revealed that Campbell's Pizza Poppa was still hitting himself because of Strange's spell. But suddenly Pizza Poppa came to a stop, looked at the audience, and said, "It's over!" The meta-joke not only let the audience that Pizza Poppa was free from the spell but that Doctor Strange 2 was over as well. Or is it a light-hearted jab at Evil Dead fans who continue to hold out hope despite his Collider interview, in which he said, "I'm done playing Ash"?
