According to Variety, Stacy Peralta, helmer of Riding Giants and Dogtown & Z-Boys, will next turn his documentary lens on Los Angeles gangs.

The untitled project will focus on L.A.'s most infamous gangs, the Crips and the Bloods. Peralta told Daily Variety that he expects the project to take up to two years to shoot.

"The idea is to understand the gang phenomenon," he said. "This isn't something I can step into like surfing and skateboarding. We want to highlight two specific gangs and a handful of people to look at the day-to-day living. We want to draw a sympathetic and informative view on why kids get trapped in this and how it's everybody's concern."

Peralta hopes to shoot the project for Columbia Pictures this winter; Art Linson and John Linson produce.

Peralta most recently wrote the feature version of Dogtown & Z-Boys, Lords of Dogtown, which Columbia label TriStar Pictures will release June 3rd.
