Star Blazers, the 1979 animated sci-fi TV series, will be getting a big screen remake from Skydance Productions, with Christopher McQuarrie hired to write the screenplay.

No plot details were given, but the animated TV series ran for three seasons and centered on a spaceship's quest to make it back in time to save planet Earth from extinction. The show was based on the Japanese animated series Uchû senkan Yamato (a.k.a Space Battleship Yamato).

Skydance founder David Ellison will produce the Star Blazers reboot along with Josh Klein. This Star Blazers project will be a live-action feature.

David Ellison currently has a deal with Paramount Pictures to co-finance and produce four to six movies per year through his Skydance company.
