Earlier this month, director Justin Lin confirmed that the new trailer for Star Trek Beyond will debut at an upcoming fan event that is taking place May 20 on the Paramount Pictures lot in Los Angeles. The event will be streamed through Facebook Live, with the filmmaker also holding a Q&A session with cast members after the trailer's premiere. While we count down the days to this big reveal, new photos have arrived offering a glimpse at the U.S.S. Enterprise crew's updated Starfleet uniforms.

The photos come courtesy of Check Magazine, and feature Captain Kirk (Chris Pine), Scotty (Simon Pegg), Spock (Zachary Quinto), Bones (Karl Urban), Chekov (Anton Yelchin), Sulu (Jon Cho) and Uhura (Zoe Saldana). We also get a few behind-the-scenes photos with director Justin Lin and Chris Pine on the set. Earlier this month, the director revealed a photo with two of the new aliens featured in the sequel.

Star Trek 3, the highly anticipated next installment in the globally popular Star Trek franchise, created by Gene Roddenberry and reintroduced by J.J. Abrams in 2009, returns with director Justin Lin (The Fast and the Furious franchise) at the helm of this epic voyage of the U.S.S. Enterprise and her intrepid crew. In Star Trek Beyond, the Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a mysterious new enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test. We recently learned that this story takes place two years into the Enterprise's five-year journey.

New cast members introduced in Star Trek Beyond include Idris Elba as the main villain, Sofia Boutella and Lydia Wilson. We also reported last month that Oscar nominee Shohreh Aghdashloo (The House of Sand and Fog) has joined the cast during the sequel's recent reshoots, playing the High Command of the Federation, although no further character details were revealed. Star Trek Beyond will hit theaters on July 22, going up against Warner Bros.' horror-thriller Lights Out and 20th Century Fox's animated sequel Ice Age: Collision Course.

Directed by Justin Lin, the third film in the franchise series is produced by J.J. Abrams, Roberto Orci, Lindsey Weber, and Lin. Jeffrey Chernov, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Tommy Harper serve as executive producers. Based upon Star Trek created by Gene Roddenberry, the screenplay is written by Simon Pegg & Doug Jung.
