Last month, director Justin Lin announced that the second trailer for his highly-anticipated sci-fi adventure Star Trek Beyond will debut during a special fan event at the Paramount Pictures lot in Hollywood, California. The event took place tonight, with the filmmaker joined by several cast members such as Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto to unveil this new footage, which we have for you below, along with a new poster. The fan event is part of the studio's ongoing efforts to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Star Trek franchise, which launched with the original TV series back in 1966.

Star Trek Beyond, the highly anticipated next installment in Paramount's globally popular Star Trek franchise, created by Gene Roddenberry and reintroduced by J.J. Abrams in 2009, returns with director Justin Lin (The Fast and the Furious franchise) at the helm of this epic voyage of the U.S.S. Enterprise and her intrepid crew. In Star Trek Beyond, the Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a mysterious new enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test.

The second trailer's arrival comes six months after the first trailer debuted back in December. We haven't seen any footage from this sci-fi sequel since then, which has only made anticipation for Star Trek Beyond grow, with the sequel shaping up to be one of this summer's biggest movies. 2009's Star Trek took in $257.7 million at the domestic box office and $385.6 million worldwide, with the 2013 follow-up Star Trek Into Darkness taking in $228.7 million domestically and $467.3 million worldwide. We'll have to wait and see if Star Trek Beyond can out-gross its predecessors this summer.

Opening July 22, 2016 from Paramount Pictures and Skydance, Star Trek Beyond is a Bad Robot, Sneaky Shark, Perfect Storm Entertainment production. The film stars John Cho, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine as Captain Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Zoë Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin and Idris Elba. Directed by Justin Lin, the third film in the franchise series is produced by J.J. Abrams, Roberto Orci, Lindsey Weber, and Lin; and executive produced by Jeffrey Chernov, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Tommy Harper. Based upon the Star Trek TV series created by Gene Roddenberry, the screenplay is written by Pegg & Doug Jung.

Star Trek Beyond will be going up against Warner Bros.' thriller Lights Out and 20th Century Fox's animated sequel Ice Age: Collision Course in theaters this July. It will also be sandwiched between two more highly-anticipated movies, Sony's Ghostbusters on July 15 and Universal's Jason Bourne on July 29.
