Earlier today, Paramount confirmed that it is moving forward with a sequel to Star Trek Beyond, which will bring back Chris Hemsworth as George Kirk, the late father of Chris Pine's Captain James Tiberius Kirk. The news comes just four days before Star Trek Beyond hits theaters, and to get fans ready for this highly-anticipated sequel, Paramount Pictures has debuted a final trailer. As you can see in the video below, this trailer puts the focus on fun, as the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise comes together for another thrilling mission.

The final trailer debuted on Facebook earlier today, which opens with Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) asking Sulu (John Cho if he can fly the U.S.S. Enterprise, with Sulu soon proving that he can. The Sulu character has become quite controversial recently, after it was revealed that this character will now be portrayed as homosexual in this version of the Kelvin timeline. George Takei, who originated the Sulu role on the original Star Trek TV series and is also gay, spoke out against this change, stating that Sulu was always portrayed as a straight man, and he would have rather a new LGBT character be introduced instead to uphold Gene Roddenberry's original vision.

Star Trek 3 will help celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Star Trek franchise, which was launched with the original TV series in the fall of 1966. For fans who are heading to Comic-Con this week, there will be a number of panels and events celebrating this iconic franchise, so stay tuned for more on that as we wade into this epic week. There will also be an outdoor screening of Star Trek Beyond as well during the San Diego convention.
