After several weeks of rumors that a teaser trailer would be coming soon (very soon), the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds trailer has finally dropped. The series is the fifth Trek series at Paramount Plus and will feature fan favorites from season two of Star Trek: Discovery, Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Number One, and Ethan Peck as Science Officer Spock. The first trailer begins with Captain Pike living in a remote winter cabin in what looks like it could be a scene from the first season of Westworld, as a mysterious voice calls him over the tricorder, requesting that he come back to the line of duty, "Chris, I need you back, Captain." As fans of Mount's tenure on Discovery's second season already know, Pike knows about the future that awaits him, in which he's injured so badly that he becomes permanently disabled as first depicted in Star Trek: The Original Series two-part episode "The Menagerie," and he has accepted it with humility as so many chronically ill people do in real life. The trailer continues, "No matter how many stars there are in the sky. No matter how many galaxies swirl, beyond our own. No matter what the mathematical probabilities are or the number of times we say we are not alone in the Universe. Our first visit from the stars is always the province of children's stories and science fiction. Until, one day, it isn't."

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds series will follow Captain Pike, Science Officer Spock, and Number One in the decade before Captain Kirk boarded the U.S.S. Enterprise, as they explore new worlds around the galaxy. Along with the Discovery cast members, joining the Enterprise crew will be along with legacy Trek characters Nurse Christine Chapel, played by Jess Bush, Cadet Nyota Uhura, played by Celia Rose Gooding, and Dr. M’Benga, played by Babs Olusanmokun. Plus, the series will introduce three new characters to round out the cast: Lt. Erica Ortegas, played by Melissa Navia, La’an Noonien-Singh, played by Christina Chong, and Hemmer, played by Bruce Horak, the first legally blind actor to play a central character on a Trek television series, according to Variety.

The new trailer also provides several glimpses of some of the locales that await Captain Pike and his crew, including what appears to be a glimpse at Vulcan. Some Trekkies with a fairly good track records are speculating that fans could be looking at the Vulcan city of ShiKahr from the episode "Yesteryear," but if that's accurate remains to be seen.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will premiere on May 5th on Paramount Plus in the U.S., Latin America, Australia, and the Nordics, and in Canada on Bell Media’s CTV Sci-Fi Channel and streamer Crave. Additional international distribution will be announced at a later date. Watch the trailer below:
