IGN has received word about the current status of director J.J. Abrams' Star Trek XI. The site has learned that production will begin this October at the Paramount Studios lot in Hollywood, and that the film will utilize five sound stages, with most of them being used for alien locations rather than starship interiors.

The film, which is scheduled to open Christmas Day of 2008, may simply be titled Star Trek.
