/star-wars-force-awakens-books/Earlier in the week, it was announced that Disney and LucasFilm have teamed with DelRey to release at least 20 books this fall through multiple publishers. These tomes will bridge the 32-year gap between Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, hitting theaters December 18. Also participating in this event is Marvel Comics, who will be releasing two upcoming titles. Today, StarWars.com released the cover art for one of these comics.
Shattered Empire #1 will be the first entry from Marvel, with the entire book series titled Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens. This sneak peek cover doesn't feature any new characters from the movie, or any of the original characters in their newer, older guises. Instead, we get a snapshot taken during the big Ewok celebration after the destruction of the second Death Star during the big climax of Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi. Phil Noto is responsible for this artwork.
Judging from the art, this comic promises to pick up right where we left off with our heroes. While there have been other novels written about the events that follow Jedi, this particular story is considered canon. The novel Star Wars Aftermath also promises to tred similar ground. In it, the second Death Star is destroyed, the Emperor and his powerful enforcer, Darth Vader, are rumored to be dead, and the Galactic Empire is in chaos. Across the galaxy, some systems celebrate, while in others Imperial factions tighten their grip. Optimism and fear reign side by side. And while the Rebel Alliance engages the fractured forces of the Empire, a lone Rebel scout uncovers a secret Imperial meeting. Take a look, as we're about to be bombarded with more Star Wars by the day.
