Before the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, there were rumors of several cameo appearances from prestigious actors, many of which turned out to be true. The grumpy junk dealer Unkar Plutt, who trades with Rey (Daisy Ridley), was played by none other than Simon Pegg, while 007 himself, Daniel Craig, had a humorous cameo as a Stormtrooper during a pivotal scene. Production has been under way on Star Wars: Episode VIII since February, and today we have a new rumor about an A-list star coming aboard for a cameo. While this report has yet to be confirmed, there will be potential SPOILERS for Star Wars 8 below, so read on at your own risk.

This report comes from Making Star Wars, whose source claims that Mad Max: Fury Road star Tom Hardy has in fact come aboard for a unique cameo. The actor will play a First Order Stormtrooper, in a scene quite similar to Daniel Craig's cameo, where Rey uses The Force against him. This new scene, however, involves Finn, formerly known as Stormtrooper FN-2187, who Hardy's Stormtrooper sees while on a "secret mission."

This report claims that FN-2187 is "surprised" when this mystery Stormtrooper recognizes him, reportedly walking up behind him and "slapping him on the ass." Finn thinks he's busted for sure, but it turns out this Stormtrooper is incredibly happy to see him, since they went through the First Order academy together. He congratulates FN-2187 on his promotion as a "Resistance infiltrator and spy," and allows him to go about his business. While we don't know for sure, it's speculated that Finn's "promotion" could be part of a propaganda campaign within the First Order.

The site speculates that, fearing any embarrassment surfacing within their ranks, Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis), General Hux (Domnhall Gleeson) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) may have told the rest of the First Order that Finn is now working as this spy. It is believed that the First Order leaders didn't tell their troops the truth, that Finn has defected to the Resistance after going AWOL. The source also adds that most of the Stormtroopers Finn knew had died during the battle at the Starkiller Base, but we don't know for sure how Tom Hardy's unnamed Stormtrooper managed to survive.

Naturally, this report has yet to be confirmed by Disney or LucasFilm, and it seems unlikely that, even if this is true, we'll get any confirmation between now and Star Wars: Episode VIII's December 15, 2017 release date. Writer-director Rian Johnson recently revealed that the production has passed the halfway point, so we'll have to wait and see what other rumors surface from the set at Pinewood Studios in the U.K. There have also been rumors that LucasFilm and Disney are considering three potential titles for the sequel, Star Wars: Echoes of the Dark Side, Star Wars: The Tale of The Jedi Temple and Star Wars: The Order of the Dark Side, but it isn't known when the official title will be unveiled. Stay tuned for more on Star Wars: Episode VIII as production continues in the U.K.
