The Rise of Skywalker will soon bring the Skywalker saga to an end, and one has to feel a shred of pity for director J.J. Abrams as there are still a lot of story threads still hanging, one of the most frustratingly mysterious of which is the identity of Snoke. Well, Abrams has attempted to shed some light on whether the Snoke mystery in Star Wars 9 will be put to bed, whilst ensuring he gives nothing away.

"I will say, without giving anything away, knowing this movie is an ending is, for me infinitely more challenging than a beginning. We knew we needed to provide answers. And while there may be some things that aren't entirely demystified by the end of it, we wanted to make sure people left feeling that they were satisfied. So I hope, on a number of issues, people will leave and feel like that it's a true ending and not an advertising ploy. We really are bringing it to an end."

That certainly does not give anything away, in fact it does not say very much at all, but it does at least give us an idea of what J.J. Abrams' intention is with Star Wars 9. Equally it sounds like Abrams will not be going through a checklist of character endings, ticking them off as the film progresses, so the likes of Snoke's identity may well remain a mystery for years to come. Was Snoke Darth Plagueis the Wise? Was he a time travelling Kylo Ren? Was he somehow Mace Windu returned from the dead?

The likelihood is that The Rise of Skywalker will leave this unresolved for now, but maybe, when Disney inevitably decide to make a new trilogy, we will have this question answered. Sadly, for now it sounds like a lot of die-hard Snoke conspiracy theorists will be leaving the theater somewhat disappointed.

But fear not intrepid Star Wars fans, The Rise of Skywalker will soon be upon us and hopefully bring several other stories to a definitive close. Star Wars 9 picks up a year after the events of The Last Jedi as the remnants of the Resistance face down The First order once again. Meanwhile, the ancient conflict between the Jedi and Sith reaches its climax, bringing Rey's journey, and the nine film Skywalker saga, to an end.

The film features a large ensemble cast comprised of Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Anthony Daniels, Naomi Ackie, Domhnall Gleeson, Richard E. Grant, Lupita Nyong'o, Keri Russell, Joonas Suotamo, Kelly Marie Tran, Ian McDiarmid, Billy Dee Williams and will feature the final appearance of Carrie Fisher's Leia Organa. Though we may not be delving any deeper into the Snoke mystery, we will find out some answers when The Rise of Skywalker is released on December 20. This comes courtesy of Uproxx.
