With just under three months left until Star Wars: The Force Awakens invades theaters nationwide, there still isn't much we know about this highly-anticipated adventure. Many hope the new trailer, which director J.J. Abrams promised is coming this fall, will shed light on some burning questions fans have had over the past few years. There is even less we know about the subsequent sequels, Star Wars: Episode VIII, directed by Rian Johnson, and Colin Trevorrow's Star Wars: Episode IX. While discussing his blockbuster Jurassic World on the Jurassic Cast Podcast, Colin Trevorrow teased that the Star Wars franchise is a true "universe," where every type of story could be told.

"I obviously can't talk too much about Star Wars, but the idea of that 'Universe,' that word gets thrown around a lot as far as movies are concerned and what people are building, that one's an actual universe. I think that the size and scope of that. Every kind of story we can think of can be told in the Star Wars universe, because it is endless and boundless."

Back in July, when Jurassic World was bringing in huge box office numbers, Colin Trevorrow was rumored to sign on as the Star Wars: Episode IX director. Then in August, just three days before Colin Trevorrow was confirmed, J.J. Abrams shot down rumors that he would come back to direct Star Wars 9, although he will be on board to help shape the stories told by Rian Johnson and Colin Trevorrow. While Disney and LucasFilm haven't issued a concrete release date yet, Star Wars: Episode IX is expected to hit theaters in 2019.

It hasn't been confirmed yet if Colin Trevorrow will also write the screenplay with his writing partner Derek Connolly, the co-writer of his first two films, Safety Not Guaranteed and Jurassic World. They are both coming back to write the script for Universal's sequel Jurassic World 2, but Colin Trevorrow isn't directing that follow-up. Derek Connolly recently signed on to write Warner Bros.' Kong: Skull Island, which is set for release on March 10, 2017.

Before Star Wars: Episode IX, Colin Trevorrow will direct Book of Henry, which is slated to start shooting this fall in New York, with Intelligent Life slated to follow in early 2016.
