Alright, Star Wars: The Last Jedi is finally out and now it's time to begin the countdown for Star Wars 9 and figure out what we need to see happen in the final installment of the new trilogy. It's going to be an interesting story no matter what, but adding to the mystery is going to be the return of J.J. Abrams. Will he attempt to improve upon The Force Awakens or will he continue to make a carbon copy of The Return of the Jedi? Rian Johnson has made a movie that stands alone and doesn't feel like it's setting us up for Episode IX, but there are some things that we're going to need J.J. Abrams to bring to the table this time around.

11 The origin of Snoke and the First Order.

Snoke origin

Just because Star Wars 9 will be the end of the trilogy does not mean that it's the end of the line for the Star Wars franchise. There's a lot to look forward to with Rian Johnson's new trilogy as well as the standalone movies. However, it would be nice to see J.J. Abrams explain how the First Order came to power while addressing who and what Snoke is all about. The next installment sees the Resistance down to depressing numbers and they're going to have to rebuild while the Resistance is still whole. Maybe Abrams can shed some backstory on the First Order while the Resistance rebuilds and gains new recruits inspired by hope and the myth of the Jedi. To take the First Order and relegate it to books or video games would be a terrible disservice to fans.

10 Rey and Kylo Ren.

Rey and Kylo Ren

This is a no brainer here, but this will have to be addressed in Star Wars 9. There were a lot of implications on the relationship between Rey and Kylo Ren and one can see Ren's reasoning to start something brand new. But Rey believes in the Light side of the Force and believes that the Jedi can live on. The beginning of The Last Jedi sees Kylo Ren wrestling with his feelings and being torn between the Light and Dark sides, leading to an amazing plot twist. Kylo Rey kills Supreme Leader Snoke and offers Rey a chance to start over, but she declines. Regardless of what happens in the next installment, Kylo Ren's thirst for power will have to be addressed and that will undoubtedly involve Rey.

9 The Resistance vs. The First Order.

First Order At-At Walkers

There is a galactic civil war going on and although the Resistance has been torn apart, news of their victory and the return of Luke Skywalker will help to rebuild the recruits. The entire crew of the Resistance can fit on the Millennium Falcon and that's just plain sad. The young boy on Canto Bight (Broom Boy) is seen with the ring of the Resistance, signaling that hope is not lost and that the Force can flow through just about anybody. The First Order will more than likely continue to be led by the odd couple of General Hux and Kylo Ren, but it seems that Kylo Ren will exert more power to keep the takeover going. But will Hux learn the truth about how Supreme Leader Snoke was killed? It's going to have to be addressed again sooner or later.

8 The possibility of a time jump.

Rey

One can't build the Resistance back in a few weeks and J.J. Abrams might choose to bring back Broom Boy from Canto Bight as a young adult. Rey will need time to train the new crop of Jedi and hopefully it will take longer than her training did with Luke Skywalker on Ahch-To. This can also give the First Order time to build a new base, perhaps a new Death Star that's under construction like in The Return of the Jedi. Hey, if anybody can pull that off, it's J.J. Abrams. The time jump makes sense and will more than likely happen to properly tell the story in Star Wars 9 because if it takes place directly after The Last Jedi, the Resistance is toast.

7 The Knights of Ren.

Knights of Ren

The Knights of Ren were shown in a blink-and-you-missed-it moment in The Force Awakens and they do not show up at all in The Last Jedi, which was a huge let down. Fan theories began to crop up that the Praetorian Guards may have been the Knights, but that was proven to be false. But now that Kylo Ren is the Supreme Leader, the Knights of Ren might have to return to protect their master. This would help J.J. Abrams to plug some holes while pushing the story along in an interesting way. If Rey is training new Jedi, it seems that the Knights of Ren might try and repeat the damage that they inflicted on Luke Skywalker's Padawans.

6 The General Organa situation.

Carrie Fisher and Rian Johnson

The death of Carrie Fisher last year had a huge impact on the direction of Star Wars 9 as she was supposed to be a larger part to drive the story after losing Han Solo and Luke Skywalker. J.J. Abrams is going to have to figure out a way to explain her absence either by having her pass away or to go into hiding of some sort. One thing is for sure and that's that Lucasfilm has promised not to use a CGI version of Fisher, which is a wise decision. It is not clear how the situation will be dealt with at this time, but they're going to have to get pretty creative and not just "Leia flying through space" creative.

5 Maz Kanata's return.

Maz Kanata

While many hardcore Star Wars fans do not want to see the return of Maz Kanata in Star Wars 9, she did show up in The Last Jedi and many believe that she has a larger purpose in the franchise. We last see Maz dealing with a particularly nasty "union dispute" via hologram when Finn, Rose, and Poe contact her for help. If new Jedi training is to be believed, it would make sense for Maz to come back and finally explain where she obtained Luke Skywalker's Lightsaber as well as her place in the Force.

4 Poe's leadership.

Poe Dameron

Will Poe end up taking the reins of the Resistance after learning some important lessons in The Last Jedi? It seems logical that he would be next in line, especially if a timeline jump is used to prove how much wisdom he has gained over the years. General Organa may promote Poe to general or he may be named after she is gone. Regardless, it's something that will be addressed in Star Wars 9 since it seems that Rian Johnson set him up for future leadership. But in the end, J.J. Abrams will decide where to take the character, which could see him still in his immature outlook of battle and winning at all costs.

3 Rey and General Organa.

Rey and Leia

We know that Rey is not a Skywalker and that her parents are nobodies, but why did Luke's blue Lightsaber call to Rey in the first place, showing her both Luke's memories and her own? Why did Obi-Wan, in the same vision, speak to her and call her by name? Why do Leia and Rey share meaningful stares at the end of both The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi? Snoke couldn't have manufactured that after his death. There is at least a strong possibility that Leia and Rey are connected in some meaningful way and Star Wars 9 needs to address that.

2 New Jedi will be discovered.

New Jedi

When Luke Skywalker told Rey about what Kylo and the Knights of Ren had done to his Jedi in training, he mentioned that he was able to escape with "a handful of students." It seems likely that this loose piece of dialogue could end up having a lot more meaning in Star Wars 9. J.J. Abrams could have Rey meet with Luke's former students along with the sacred Jedi texts to continue the Jedi and spread hope throughout the galaxy. At the very least, we have learned that the Force can flow through even nobodies, so it sounds like more Jedi are bound to show up in the next installment.

1 The BB-9E droid.

BB-9E Droid

The BB-9E droid is barely shown in The Last Jedi, but he can be seen giving the eye to BB-8 and an epic battle is sure to follow in Star Wars 9. The BB-9E was shown in a lot of the promotional material for The Last Jedi, but he/she is only in the movie for less than a minute, which leads us to believe that footage was cut or J.J. Abrams is going to bring the droid back for a droid showdown. It seems pointless to show the droid for a brief second, so we're going to need to see it in Star Wars 9 along with some other droids and creatures. We're still pretty far away from Star Wars 9 hitting theaters, but we know what we need to see, so someone needs to forward this list to J.J. Abrams and let him know about our demands. The Porgs will be back and that's a fact, those cute little bastards aren't going anywhere, but everything else we've brought up is speculation and hope. While we wait for Episode IX, let's go back and watch The Last Jedi a few more times to figure out what else we may need for the final installment in the trilogy.
