The latest Star Wars 9 TV spot seems to tease a battle between Dark Rey and Kylo Ren. Disney and Lucasfilm have been releasing new TV spots for the movie on what feels like a daily basis. With these new spots, more and more footage from the highly anticipated sequel has come out in a short amount of time, giving Star Wars fans a better idea of what to expect. But, could the studio be using some misdirection to promote the final installment in the Skywalker Saga?

Dark Rey was revealed earlier this year and it came as a shock to most Star Wars fans. We're still not entirely sure about the details, but it looks like she's getting ready to fight Kylo Ren in The Rise of Skywalker TV spot. Both characters are in dark areas and things look like they're going to get crazy. The spot shows a quick look at Dark Rey, which we have seen previously, and then edits directly to a shot of Kylo Ren getting ready to slice someone up with his Lightsaber.

While the thought of Dark Rey taking on Kylo Ren is interesting, it could just be some marketing misdirection. The long-running fan theory seems to believe that Rey will be the one to face off against Dark Rey, much like Luke Skywalker did with himself in The Empire Strikes Back while on Dagobah. The Cave of Evil, aka Darkside Cave, "subjected entrants to the vergence's control, projecting their worst fears as apparitions and illusions." This seems to make sense for The Rise of Skywalker, but what if it isn't Rey who sees this illusion?

It could be Kylo Ren who comes into contact with Dark Rey, but that doesn't seem to make sense. We know from previous TV spots that Rey returns to Ahch-To with Kylo Ren, which is more than likely where the Dark Rey scene comes from. Rey may be there to communicate with Jedi Force Ghosts, or to go back to the mirror cave under the Jedi temple. Regardless, going back to the temple seems like a pretty big deal for the overall story arc. This is also where Yoda's Force Ghost visited Luke in The Last Jedi.

While we have received a lot of Star Wars 9 footage over the past few days, we certainly do not know what the main storyline is. J.J. Abrams recently said he wasn't as worried about some of the larger stuff being revealed since The Rise of Skywalker is the last movie in the trilogy. We have seen some pretty huge reveals since the first trailer debuted and bigger stuff seems to keep coming, leaving fans wondering what exactly Abrams has up his sleeve.
