There is no denying the fact that in the past, the Star Wars community has been quite vicious when moments and characters don’t go the way they want. Thankfully, however, most of the Star Wars community today are much more accepting and loving within its fandom. Sadly, the harsher side of the Star Wars community has left a lasting input in the fandom, and their hatred towards some of the franchise's characters stemmed way out of control.

There are many characters in Star Wars that have been overwhelmed by hate, and no character or actor deserves this much hate, especially those that are not written to be hated. To that end, here are some Star Wars characters that don’t deserve the hate they get.

10 Kylo Ren

Kylo Ren is one of the best and most complex characters in a Star Wars movie. That’s a fact. Sure, he may have been a little whiny at first, like a spoiled teenager, but as the sequel trilogy pushed on, Kylo Ren’s arc deepened. Kylo isn’t as hated as some other characters on this list, but he still receives some hate, as some may find it difficult to look past his stroppy attitude and the fact that he pretty much wiped out the big three from the original trilogy. Kylo stabbed Han Solo, and Luke and Leia both used their forced energy in sacrifice against Kylo, killing them both.

To some, this may be blasphemous, but these moments allowed Kylo to grow as a character, and after being suffocated by his guilt, Kylo freed himself from the Dark Side and sacrificed himself for Rey and the entire galaxy. Plus, Kylo has one of the coolest lightsabers in Star Wars, which certainly accounts for something.

9 Omega

Lucasfilm Animation

To casual audiences, Omega isn’t a particularly well-known Star Wars character. But those who have seen The Bad Batch struggled to connect with her at first, building an undeserved hatred for the character before she even had an arc. As the series goes on, however, Omega does receive an arc, turning her from a fairly helpless child to a formidable member of Clone Force 99, with an awesome weapon. Likewise, Omega is incredibly kind-hearted, putting herself before others many times, and is always open to helping anyone during her travels through the galaxy.

8 Porgs

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

Porgs were made for nothing, other than selling merchandise, which is a huge reason as to why so many fans hate these little fluffy Puffin-like creatures. It may be cheating putting an entire species on here, but Porgs truly don’t deserve the hate they get. They’re incredibly adorable, and we just want to meet one someday.

7 Ewoks

For modern audiences, it may be difficult to hear that Star Wars fans were not particularly fond of Ewoks back when Return of the Jedi released in 1983. Like Porgs, Ewoks were just created to sell merchandise. But since its release, Star Wars fans have grown to love the adorable Teddy Bear-like creatures. However, there is still a small percentage that loathe the entire species.

Ewoks are adorable, but don’t let that fool you, as their efficiency for building traps and weapons, their small stature, and experience on their home planet of Endor, make for deadly creatures.

6 Vice Admiral Holdo

The sequel trilogy has many characters that fans are not too fond of, and one of them is Vice Admiral Holdo, from the incredibly controversial Star Wars movie, The Last Jedi. Throughout the movie, Holdo served as the Admiral while General Leia was recovering from her injuries, and many of the Resistance, most notably Poe Dameron, and many audience members didn’t like the way she was handling things. However, it was for the greater good, allowing Holdo to save more of her people before sacrificing herself by flying her ship through hyperspace into Supreme Leader Snoke’s Ship. Holdo is selfless and a character we should be admiring, not hating.

5 Rose Tico

Rose Tico was a character that only added to the reasons why many dislike the sequel trilogy. However, her character isn't all bad. Rose saved Finn from sacrificing himself to save the rest of the Resistance, which at the time, seemed like a pretty thoughtless and selfish move from Rose, but it's the poetic words she speaks after that make sense of it. Rose utters, "That's how we're gonna win. Not fighting what we hate, saving what we love".

Many Star Wars fans may roll their eyes, but the line is a deeply important message on war and politics. On top of this, Rose is a very loyal character and a passionate fighter against the First Order.

4 Anakin Skywalker

Lucasfilm

During 1999-2005, when the prequel trilogy dropped, Anakin Skywalker was instantly despised by the community. Young Anakin in The Phantom Menace was seen as irritating, and older Anakin was selfish, moody, and much like his grandchild, Kylo Ren, and acted a lot like a prepubescent teen. For those who have only seen the prequel trilogy and aren't particularly fond of them, Anakin may still be seen as an irritating character. However, when Dave Filloni's fantastic animated Star Wars series, The Clone Wars, was released, Anakin received much more depth, much like many of the characters in The Clone Wars.

If you dislike Anakin because of his character in the prequels, spend some time with his character in The Clone Wars and you will soon see how wrong you are.

3 Finn

Star Wars - Finn
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

At first, Finn was a fan-favorite sequel trilogy character, but when the final two films were released, criminally throwing his character to the sidelines, fans never really got invested into his story. The reason Finn is so hated, is because of his mistreatment throughout the movies, but we remember he is a character who could have so much depth. Leaning into Finn's traumatic past with the First Order and demonstrating his future as a Jedi would have made Finn an unforgettable and inspiring Star Wars character. If you want proof, re-watch The Force Awakens, as Finn is the character we wish he was for the entire trilogy.

2 Rey Skywalker

Stealing the Skywalker name aside, Rey is an incredibly compelling character, despite what many fans may tell you. Rey is immensely powerful in the force, constantly battling the temptation of the Dark Side, and her relation to Emperor Palpatine offers many interesting dynamics for her character. We can't wait to see Rey in her new movie, as it may allow audiences who never connected with her to finally give her the love she deserves.

1 Jar Jar Binks

20th Century Fox

The hate that Jar-Jar Binks received is the stuff of legend. Albeit an incredibly sad legend. The hatred of Jar Jar Binks is perhaps one of the most tragic examples of fans blaming the actors. Actor Ahmed Best constantly received hate mail and death threats for his character, which is simply horrific. Thankfully, Ahmed Best is now receiving the love he deserves after portraying the awesome Jedi Master, Kelleran Beq, who saved Grogu.

Now, it's time for Jar Jar to receive more love than he originally received. Sure, Jar Jar is just in the prequel trilogy for comedic effect, constantly acting as a goofball, but at points, he does make the movies at least the first two far more entertaining. Much like Anakin, Jar Jar was a character who was deeper developed in The Clone Wars, giving the Gungan much more of a fan base.
