Everyone seems to be copying the Marvel Cinematic Universe model these days, with Warner Bros. and DC Comics paving the way for their Justice League ensemble by setting up a number of superhero cameos in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Universal Pictures is relaunching a new inter-connected franchise with their library of classic creatures and monsters. It seems even Marvel's parent company, Walt Disney Studios, is following in their footsteps with Star Wars: Episode VII, which will launch a new trilogy along with a series of Star Wars spin-off adventures.

Disney CFO Jay Rasulo revealed today that the studio is in fact "mirroring" Marvel's path, but they plan on moving Star Wars along much faster.

"We are doing what we do for our Disney franchises ... with Star Wars, and it is mirroring Marvel, but we already know the path, so it's going to go faster, smoother, with the same goals."

While speaking at the Goldman Sachs 23rd Annual Communacopia Conference, Jay Rasulo also commented on the sub-par box office results for the year, stressing that it has been a great year for Disney because they focused on their brands.

"Look, it's no secret that this has not been a great year for the box office -- it is an unbelievable year for us. that's because we went forward with brands."

After Star Wars: Episode VII, Disney will launch a Star Wars Spin-Off in 2016, Star Wars: Episode VIII in 2017, another Untitled Star Wars Spin-Off in 2018, Star Wars: Episode IX in 2019 and a Third Star Wars Spin-Off Movie in 2020.

Disney is also launching the TV series Star Wars Rebels this fall, which takes place between Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. All of the projects will be interconnected.
